About Caitlin
I grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis — just about a 20-minute drive south of downtown. I originally thought I would be a business major (I was even in the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management for a year!) but quickly realized I wanted to pursue journalism; to tell stories, meet interesting people and learn something new every day — all while being grounded in reality.
I’m a reporter for the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, where I cover commercial and residential real estate. I previously covered technology, startups, health care and manufacturing.
Prior to joining the Business Journal as a reporter in August of 2022, I was the community editor for the Edina Sun Current for two years. I was in charge of putting the newspaper together every week, which included reporting, writing, photography, letters to the editor, copy editing and layout work.
I am 2020 graduate of the University of Minnesota’s Hubbard School of Journalism and Mass Communication. I have a B.A. in professional journalism and a minor in political science. While in college, I studied abroad (and interned at the Centre for Investigative Journalism), worked at my university newspaper (the Minnesota Daily) and gained additional journalism experience at the following organizations: Minneapolis Star Tribune, St. Paul Pioneer Press and Greenspring Media (publisher of Minnesota Monthly magazine.) During the summer following my graduation, I also interned at the Business Journal, largely covering commercial real estate.
Some extra (& interesting) facts about me:
My favorite font is Calibri in 10pt — I write all of my story drafts this way
I’m a certified scuba diver (I’ve used my skills in Maui and the Cayman Islands so far)
I’m a big fan of em-dashes
My typical Starbucks order is a vanilla iced latte with oat milk
I love tortoiseshell cats (and even have one myself!)
